About the North Lanark Agricultural Society (NLAS)
The predecessor of the NLAS was the Agricultural
Society of the North Riding of the County of Lanark. Which created the first constitution
of the Agricultural Society on March 27th, 1858 .Early in
Canadian history is was recognized that it was critical to improve the
business of agriculture. The governing bodies in the mid 1800s decided
that the formation of agricultural societies could assist in the
promotion and development of individual farms. This practice of
assisting agricultural societies continued well into the 1970s.
To the best of our knowledge the current NLAS was formed in 1861.
Today's NLAS has evolved like the new constitution over time and continues to be a leader in promoting Agriculture in the area.
